UPOU Concludes Blended Training on ODeL for MVGFC

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), through its Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL), successfully concluded the Blended Training on ODeL Course Design, Delivery, and Management for the Manuel V. Gallego Foundation Colleges, Inc. (MVGFC) with a two-day face-to-face workshop held on 24–25 June 2026 at the UP Open University in Los Baños, Laguna.
The month-long training, which officially commenced with an onboarding session on 26 May 2026, provided participants with a blended learning experience designed to strengthen their knowledge and practice of Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL). Through a combination of online learning activities and face-to-face sessions, participants explored the principles of flexible learning, instructional design, learner engagement, assessment, and learning management systems while developing their own online course prototypes.
The culminating workshop focused on transforming participants’ learning into practical outputs through collaborative and hands-on course development activities. Participants refined and finalized essential course components, including the Course Guide, Study Guide, Learning Activity Guide, and Assignment Guide, while enhancing their Moodle-based course prototypes with multimedia and interactive learning resources.
The CODTL facilitation team included Director Juvy Lizette A. Gervacio and Deputy Director for Learning Design Dr. Joseph A. De Mesa. The following ODeL experts served as resource persons: Deputy Director for Educational Media Production Dr. Benigno B. Agapito Jr., Dr. Rita C. Ramos from the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), Asst Prof. Ana Katrina Marcial, and Dr. J. Aleta Villanueva from the Faculty of Education.
Throughout the two-day workshop, participants received coaching and constructive feedback on instructional design, learner experience, multimedia integration, assessment strategies, and course implementation. They also participated in peer review sessions that encouraged collaboration and the sharing of best practices in online teaching and learning.
The program culminated in the presentation and showcasing of participants’ completed course packages and prototype online courses. Facilitators and peers provided feedback on each output, while exemplary projects were recognized for demonstrating innovation, learner-centered design, effective use of digital tools, accessibility, and strong alignment with ODeL principles.
The training concluded with a recognition ceremony and closing program led by CODTL, reaffirming UPOU’s commitment to supporting higher education institutions in strengthening their capacity to design, develop, deliver, and manage quality flexible and online learning programs. The UPOU Chancellor, Dr. Joane V. Serrano, and MVGV President, Joseph L. Gallego, delivered inspirational messages to the graduates of the program.
The training was initiated by MVGFC through the support of President Gallego, as part of the institution’s commitment to expanding access to quality education by enhancing instructional materials and improving course design and delivery. The initiative also supports MVGFC’s long-term goals of developing micro-credential programs and continuing professional development offerings.
Through this partnership, UPOU and MVGFC continue to advance innovative, learner-centered approaches to education, empowering educators with the competencies needed to design, deliver, and manage quality Open and Distance e-Learning in diverse learning environments.
