UP Open University, through the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL), trained 9 officials and faculty members from the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) team that completed the Comprehensive training on ODeL which was held at the UPOU headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna.

The training was held from February 1 to 3, 2024, and covered the following microcredential courses:

Developing an Online Curriculum:

  • Introduction to ODeL: Pedagogical underpinnings and theories – Dr. Ricardo T. Bagarinao, Deputy Director, CODTL
  • Curriculum Development: Principles and Process – Dr. J. Aleta Villanueva, Deputy Director, CODTL
  • Instructional Materials Development: Principles and Processes – Mr. Lexter Mangubat, Deputy Director, CODTL

Designing an Online Learning Environment:

  • Delivery Mode/Strategies for ODeL – Dr. Ricardo T. Bagarinao
  • Assessment of Learning – Dr. Rita Ramos, Assistant Professor, FMDS

Developing an Institutional Management Plan for Online Education:

  • Institutional Qualification, Management, and Commitment – Dr. Ethel Valenzuela, Member, Technical Panel for Distance Education and Transnational Education
  • Student Support Services for ODeL – Ms. Alvie Alip, University Researcher, OVCAA

The training, which is UPOU’s response to its mandate in RA 10650 or the Open Distance Learning Act, had provided the participants with a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles and practices of ODeL. Throughout the workshop, CBSUA representatives had the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, showcasing their ability to design, implement, and evaluate online learning programs tailored to the diverse needs of learners.

The successful completion of this program highlights CBSUA’s commitment to enhancing its capabilities in ODeL, aligning with modern trends in education delivery.
