UPOU Launches Tier 1 Microcourse for Faculty-in-Charge

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), through its Center (CODTL) has launched its new round of training for its Faculty-in-Charge (FICs), who are at the forefront of creating meaningful and inclusive online learning spaces.

This semester, FICs are taking Tier 1: Basic Online Course Design and Facilitation, the first step in UPOU’s series of tiered self-paced microcourses. The program focuses on the essentials of course design and online facilitation, equipping faculty members with the knowledge and skills they need before handling their classes in the virtual environment.

The training opened on 19 August 2025, giving faculty ample time to prepare for the start of classes. Those handling First Semester courses are expected to complete Tier 1 by 15 September 2025, while those teaching in the First Trimester have until 21 September 2025.

Those who complete the course will receive both a certificate and a digital badge for each module. These recognitions, which are aligned with the UPOU Faculty Competency Map, highlight professional growth and a continuing commitment to teaching excellence in open and distance e-learning (ODeL).
